As enterprise applications grow, the main reason they fail isn’t technology, but the gap in understanding between business experts and developers Le Domain-Driven Design (DDD), introduced by Eric Evans, bridges this gap by placing the business model at the heart of software design.

1. The strategic pillars of DDD

Strategic DDD is interested in the overall structuring of the system and human collaboration:

Ubiquitous Language : A shared and precise vocabulary, used by both developers and product teams in documentation, meetings, and source codesource
Bounded Context :An explicit boundary within which a domain model applies consistently. The term 'Client' can have a different meaning in the context of billing than in user support .
Context Mapping :The mapping of interactions and dependencies between the different defined contexts.

2. The tactical bricks of the domain model

Tactical DDD provides precise components to structure code inside aBounded Context :

Entities vs Value Objects

Entity :.An object defined by a unique identity that persists over time (e.g., a User identified by their ID, even if their address changes).
Value Object : .Immutable object defined only by the value of its attributes (e.g., a MonetaryAmount with a value and a currency). If two Value Objects have the same attributes, they are interchangeable.

Aggregates et Aggregate Root

An aggregate is a set of entities and Value Objects treated as a unit of transactional consistency. Direct access to the internal objects is forbidden from the outside: only the Aggregate Root (the root of the aggregate) exposes public methods to change the internal state while ensuring business integrity rules.

Domain Events

.A domain event formalizes something that happened in the business (e.g., OrderShippedEvent). It lets you notify other modules or services in a completely asynchronous and decoupled way.

Avoid the 'Anemic Model' Trap

A common anti-pattern is creating data classes that only have getters and setters without any logic, while all the business intelligence is scattered across external services. DDD recommends putting the behavior back as close to the data as possible to ensure the system's integrity.

Conclusion

When combined with Clean Architecture and Design Patterns, Domain-Driven Design provides a solid way to build scalable information systems that meet the strategic needs of businesses.
